Diversifying the portfolio of life…

April 30, 2007 4:56 am

Well folks, by the team you read this, my hinney will be planted firmly in a chair at the Arizona School of Real Estate and Business.

Real Estate is something that has deeply interested me for years. When I was 21, I managed to buy a townhome down in Tucson with no income, and a smidge under $4000 that I had scrounged up (Big shout out to Ma and Pa King for Co-signing!). For the next few years, I would live in one of the bedrooms and rent the other two out to pay my mortgage. I managed to pull this off, fairly successfully in my mind, for a bit over two years. In those two years, a long list of friends, family, and cyclists, called 2664 W. Avenida Azahar home, and in doing so kept my mortgage paid.

Always had a head for wheeling and dealing…

It was the thrill of hunting for a property, finding it and signing the papers, the pride of ownership, and then the excitement of selling and seeing first hand the modern marvel more commonly known as “appreciation”.

Fast forward several years to this Monday and I’ve finally taken the initiative to pursue this interest of mine. For the next three weeks, I’ll attend 90 hours of real estate licensing classes. The school offers several convenient program formats and I picked the three week course because it will fit in quite nicely with my training schedule and personal life. After the courses, a few tests will need to be passed before I can drive down to the Arizona Department of Real Estate and apply for a license.

I’ll keep you people updated on my progress as we get further into things.

Cheers.

Dearest Heeb,

“juzz gimmie a glimce at them next dime years be flowin by”….

I don’t get it.

Hey Larry,

No, I won’t miss any races while I’m taking these classes. I’m scheduled to be home in Phoenix for nearly all of May. So, I’ll be able to train and race locally with no problems.

The brokers course is a 3-week course of Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday classes. All it does is make for a few long days.

But a long day never hurt nobody… or at least that’s what I’ve heard? We’ll see.

Austin

King,

Sometimes I don’t get it either. But, together, yes together King, we shall come to terms.

Good for you! But be forewarned, those classes are trance/sleep inducing. ;-p

Oh - don’t forget the fun of CE after all is said and done! Ha.

Really though - good career to have in the background. Congratulations.

Hi Valerie,

Thank you! I’m pretty excited about it and actually, the classes don’t make me sleepy, they make me hungry!

Something about sitting still for four hours and focusing hard stirs up the appetite in me!

Take care!
