It’s 4:45 a.m. and I just woke up in Richmond, Virginia. Rise and shine… it’s a 8:00 a.m. start time with a one hour transfer to the start line in Williamsburg.

Oh yeah, it’s snowing outside.

Well… not real snow to all you cold weather high mountain and East Coast buffs reading this… More like wet snow or snow flurries.

But… to this Phoenician desert rat… who’s been training in above 90 degree weather for the past few weeks and getting sun burns… it’s real freaking snow.

Actually, in the past 15 minutes, in my head I’ve designed all sorts of new waterproof cycling clothes out of plastic garbage bags, sandwich bags, and anything else I thought might be waterproof. I expect the clothing that I brought to stand up to the elements, but then again… when was the last time I rode around in snow, or wet snow flurries? Maybe I’ll get to test out my Kroger brand plastic toe warmers? Who knows…

Take care and stay warm. Or if you’re in Phoenix… go sit on the back porch and enjoy the warmth. I sure won’t be.
