My favorite kind of day….

April 17, 2006 5:51 pm

Ah, another pre-race day……..my favorite day: Got a nice little ride in and followed it up with a little lunch………Shut my eyes for a bit……..Smiled for the team presentation………Relaxed for a nice leg rub………..Threw down some dinner…………and that brings me to here: bedtime.

Rough day, I know.

Hoppy and I got a bit of t.v. time this evening. Channel 6 News was at the Team Presentation and they talked with us a bit. I missed the nightly showing so I’m not sure how it turned out.

Check out the team site for updates during the tour. They’ll be posting videos there. They should be fairly entertaining.

Tomorrow the fun begins. Stay tuned. Night.

The South will one day rise again!

April 16, 2006 5:20 pm

I told you guys a few days ago that it would be about a 2 hour drive from Athens to the Tour de Georgia TT course. Actually it was 4 hours……. each way……Eureka!

On the way home we stopped to grab a bite to eat. The guy behind the counter said, “You guys must be from up north”…….

“Nah, I’m from out west”, I said.

Then, I just saw in a regional magazine something about General Sherman’s (a man from “up north”, circa 1864) Civil War march setting the stage for the WWII nuclear attack on Tokyo (circa 1945)……Hm…With feelings like these still brewing, I feel the South will one day attempt to rise again. Consider yourself warned……….

Well, I’m in Augusta, Georgia right now. You may remember Augusta from such global productions as that Master’s golf game thinga-ma-jiggy, but soon it will be remembered as the start town of stage one of the Tour de Georgia. Tomorrow, we have a nice little ride planned and the team presentation in the evening. It should be fun.

Grits and Skynyrd.

Upon further review of my last post, Minneapolis is officially the “long way” of getting to Georgia………

Yesterday we had a nice little ride in the mountains of Northern Georgia. We got to do some recon of the climbing days. Brasstown is a pretty tough little 3 mile climb. There’s also a climb earlier in the day called Hog Pen that will be a bit rough too. They’ve got some sweet names for the climbs out here……Wolf Pen and Woody Gap are two others. They’re all Pen’s or Gap’s…..must be a Southern thing. Just like grits and Skynyrd.

Viva la Skynyrd!

Today we’re off to ride the TT course. At a little over 2 hours each way, it’s a bit of a drive but should be worth it. I guess the TT course has a steep climb in it and a technical descent with a particular corner where lots of people like to crash, so seeing the course will help.

Also, I’ve worked out the comment issue my sites been having. It wouldn’t allow you to leave a comment unless you were a member. Now, there’s no discriminating……members….non-members….all are welcome to leave comments till your little hearts content.

Cheers.

I’m no geographist, but…….

April 11, 2006 5:03 pm

Hello again.

I fly out tomorrow at o’ dark thirty. Next stop: Georgia! But not without a brief layover in Minneapolis, Minnesota of all places. I’m not a geographist, but I think I’m taking the long way……..

Or perhaps the scenic way?

I’ve spent the past few days rustling back up my fitness. The little congestion issue I had 2 weeks ago somehow morphed into a joyous little stomach virus. I don’t wish the stomach ya-ya’s upon even my worst enemy. It’s no fun when your daily tasks must be strategically planned out in accordance to the proximity of a hygenic, functioning bano. I say bano because Suzanne compared my situation to something you would have unwillingly picked up while vacationing in Mexico. Arriba!

I got out on a nice long ride today and felt strong. A couple more quality rides and I should be good. The Tour of Georgia will be a toughie. The race has a nice start list. McEwen’s coming. I think I’m going to see if he wants to sprint me for a city limit sign…..winner takes all. That’d be pretty sweet.

The block is hot……

April 4, 2006 2:14 pm

Yeah, totally hot.

My blocks, like, so hot right now.

We’ve got Africanized Killer Bees…….so you’d better stay away! Our neighbors found a hive and called an exterminator. He drove out and in the midst of making the little boogers go sleepy sleepy, cracked the hive right open releasing them into the open. Or in this case, the 11000 block of Bancroft Drive.

According to the communication method of front door to front door yelling, one of our neighbors apparently now has killer bees in his house…….I know, I too wondered why in the hell he let them in?

Also, there was a lady walking by and the Bees didn’t approve of it……I’m guessing she won’t come around these parts anymore. Yikes!
